The AI
Commerce Score

One number from 0 to 100 that tells you whether AI shopping agents can see, trust, and recommend your store. Eight weighted factors, scored the way an AI agent actually evaluates a merchant before sending a buyer its way.

What it is

How AI grades your store

AI Commerce Score
The AI Commerce Score is a 0 to 100 measure of how ready your store is to be discovered, trusted, and recommended by AI shopping agents, built from eight weighted factors that mirror how those agents actually evaluate a merchant.

Search ranked pages. AI recommends merchants. The signals are not the same, and a store can rank well on Google while being effectively invisible to ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Apple Intelligence. The AI Commerce Score measures the new signals: can AI read you, confirm what you sell, verify you are trustworthy, and match you to a buyer. Each factor is weighted by how much it actually moves AI recommendation behavior.

Score composition

Eight factors, 100 points

Five factors carry the heaviest weight at 15 percent each. Two carry 10 percent, and external authority carries 5 percent, a weight we expect to grow as AI training data expands.

The eight factors

What each factor measures

Each factor maps to a specific question an AI agent asks about your store. Several have their own deep-dive guide, linked below.

01
Semantic Visuals & Image Clarity
AI vision reads your product images. Alt text must match what the photo shows, and critical information must not be locked inside graphics AI cannot parse.
15%
02
JSON-LD schema and llms.txt: the primary language AI uses to confirm what you sell, for how much, and who stands behind the store.
15%
03
Crawler access for GPTBot, ClaudeBot, and AppleBot, Core Web Vitals, and a clean DOM with real heading structure AI can map.
15%
04
Machine-readable policies, an agent-navigable checkout, and a clear legal identity AI can verify before routing a buyer to you.
15%
05
Commerce & Feed Accuracy
Price and availability that agree across your HTML, your schema, and your product feed. A mismatch surfaced to a buyer costs AI trust.
15%
06
How well your content maps to real buyer intent rather than keywords. Generic copy cannot match a specific, contextual request.
10%
07
AggregateRating schema and parseable review sentiment: the social proof that decides whether AI mentions you or champions you.
10%
08
Brand mentions and citations in Reddit, press, and AI indexes. A brand absent everywhere external is treated as unverified.

What your score predicts

The score is a direct predictor of AI recommendation probability. The bands below describe what each range means for how AI treats your store.

85 to 100
Highly Recommendable
AI understands, trusts, and confidently recommends your store.
70 to 84
Moderately Recommendable
AI recommends you, but stronger signals would raise frequency and position.
50 to 69
Low Confidence
AI can see you but misses critical signals. Recommendations are weak or inconsistent.
0 to 49
AI Invisible Risk
Critical gaps stop AI from recommending you. You are being skipped today.
Where most stores stand: the average AI Commerce Score across scanned DTC stores is around 45, roughly half score below 50, and no store has yet cleared the Highly Recommendable threshold of 85. The top of the scale is still wide open.
FAQ

AI Commerce Score: common questions

What is the AI Commerce Score?
It is a 0 to 100 measure of how ready your store is to be discovered, trusted, and recommended by AI shopping agents. It is built from eight weighted factors covering visuals, structured data, technical interpretability, trust, commerce accuracy, intent match, recommendation confidence, and external authority. It predicts whether AI includes or excludes your store from its recommendations.
How are the eight factors weighted?
Five factors carry 15 percent each: Semantic Visuals, AI Structured Signals, Core Technical and Interpretability, AI Trust and Transaction Confidence, and Commerce and Feed Accuracy. User Intent Match and Recommendation Confidence carry 10 percent each. External Authority Signals carries 5 percent. The weights total 100 points.
What score do I need to be recommended?
Below 50, AI agents are systematically excluding your store. From 50 to 69 you are read but recommended weakly. From 70 to 84 you are recommended but stronger signals would lift frequency and position. At 85 and above AI can recommend you with high confidence. The current average across scanned DTC stores is around 45.
How is this different from an SEO score?
SEO scores measure how well you rank in a list of links. The AI Commerce Score measures whether an AI agent will recommend you in a conversation. The signals differ: schema, machine-readable trust, feed accuracy, and intent match matter far more to AI than traditional ranking factors, and a store can score well on one and poorly on the other.
