llms.txt
llms.txt is a plain text file at the root of your domain that tells AI language models what your store sells, how it is structured, and what content they are permitted to use.

What is the difference between llms.txt and llms-full.txt?
llms.txt is a concise summary: brand positioning, key categories, trust summary, and navigation guidance. llms-full.txt is the complete version with your full product catalog, detailed descriptions, and comprehensive inventory data. AI agents typically read llms.txt first, then use llms-full.txt to browse your full catalog.
What is the difference between llms.txt and agents.md?
llms.txt and llms-full.txt describe who you are and what you sell. agents.md is different: it tells autonomous AI agents how they're allowed to act on your store, including checkout steps, permissions, and constraints for AI-initiated purchases.
Does llms.txt replace schema markup?
No. llms.txt and JSON-LD schema markup serve different purposes. llms.txt gives AI agents a high-level overview of your store before crawling. Schema markup gives AI agents machine-readable structured data within individual pages. Both are required for strong AI Readiness.
How should I optimize my llms.txt?
Go to Shopify Admin, Settings, Agentic. Replace the generic auto-generated description with specific positioning: who you are, what you sell, price range, and what makes you different. Add category depth with price ranges, a trust summary, and explicit niche signals.
Can AI agents actually use llms.txt today?
